Opening borders could be a historic event for Georgia - immunologist

Opening borders to foreigners during the coronavirus pandemic will be a test for Georgia. Tengiz Tsertsvadze, an immunologist, professor, doctor of medical sciences and head of the Tbilisi Infectious Diseases Hospital, told reporters on June 29, Georgian Public Television reports. The doctor noted that Georgia managed to cope with the spread of coronavirus, as well as prevent a new outbreak of disease growth after the removal of quarantine restrictions. According to the immunologist, after these two trials, the country has to cope with a new one. If Georgia withstands the opening of borders, this will be a historical event, then the whole world will talk about us, said Tsertsvadze. The doctor noted that it will be uncritical if the incidence rate of COVID-19 begins to increase. According to him, the reserves of the national health system are such that so far it has not been used even 1/5 of its capabilities. If, after the resumption of international tourism, coronavirus begins to spread more strongly, then hospitals are well prepared for this. Recall that from July 1, the Georgian government plans to open borders for foreign tourists. The first should be tourists from those countries where the likelihood of infection with coronavirus is low.
