Australian operator Telstra subjected to cyber attack

Some customers of the Australian telecom operator Telstra lost access to the Internet due to a cyber attack on the company's servers. This was reported by the electronic magazine ZDNet. Many Telstra customers were unable to access the Internet on the morning of August 2. The company's website was also temporarily unavailable. Telstra explained that the cause of these failures was a cyber attack aimed at some of the DNS domain name servers. It is noted that hackers used an attack of type DoS (from the English Denial of Service), aimed at bringing the system to failure. Telstra representatives assured that the personal data of users was not compromised. As previously reported by the news agency, in July, Australian Prime Minister Scott announced an increase in the number of cyber attacks in Australia. He announced that the government would spend 1.35 billion Australian dollars (about 926.1 million US dollars) over the next ten years to strengthen the information security system.
