Monument to seventh US President Calhoun demolished in South Carolina - CNN

The municipal authorities of Charleston (South Carolina) dismantled the monument to the seventh president of the United States, John Calhoun, who held this post from 1925 to 1832. This was reported on June 26 by CNN. We are moving forward on the issue of racial reconciliation, this makes our city united, CNN quoted Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg on this subject. At the same time, earlier members of the city council approved the dismantling of the monument to John Calhoun. Recall that Calhoun is a native of South Carolina and under US Presidents John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson was the country's vice president. He is also considered one of the main ideologists of slavery policy in the Southern United States. Note, as reported by the news agency, on June 22 it became known that two statues erected at the Confederate monument were demolished by protesters against racism in the city of Raleigh, the center of the US state of North Carolina.
