The UN calculated the number of refugees in the world

The number of refugees in the world in 2019 increased by almost nine million people, by the end of last year there were 79.5 million displaced people in the world, according to the published annual report of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. According to the report Forced Displacement in 2019, a steady increase in the number of refugees in the world has been observed since 2010. Since 2000, the number of displaced persons has doubled, in 2019 there were 70.8 million. Of the total number of refugees, 45.7 million are internally displaced due to conflict, economic distress or natural disasters within countries. Also, 29.6 million became refugees from their countries, of which 4.2 million requested asylum in their country of residence. 68% of refugees from their native countries come from five countries: Syria, Venezuela, Afghanistan, South Sudan and Myanmar.
