The United States proposes to allocate about $3.8 billion to contain Russia

The US House Committee on Armed Services (U.S. House Committee on Armed Services) has proposed strengthening measures to contain Russia, for the implementation of which it proposes to budget about $3.8 billion in 2021. This was reported in the corresponding document of the US Defense Budget Committee. Fully finance the European Containment Initiative and provide an additional $3.789 billion for strategic shipping, satellite communications, refueling, underwater and anti-submarine warfare, which strengthen deterrence against Russia, the document says. It also indicates the need to allocate $250 million for military support to Ukraine, of which $50 million should be allocated for the supply of lethal weapons to the Ukrainian side. In addition, it is planned to extend the ban on the financing of any activities that can be regarded as supporting initiatives to violate the sovereignty of Ukraine, including in matters of Crimea. However, the committee's experts, despite the continuation of the course on the general limitation of military cooperation with the Russian Federation, recommend expanding it through bilateral military dialogue in order to reduce the risk of conflict between the United States and Russia. Recall that earlier the commander of the US Navy in Europe and Africa, Admiral James Foggo, told Stars and Stripes reporters that he was concerned about the activity of Russian submarines in the Mediterranean Sea.
