Slovakia approved a quadruple increase in the budget deficit for 2020
The law providing for an increase in the budget deficit of Slovakia by more than four times entered into force after the signing of the President of the Republic Zuzana Chaputova. This was reported on August 3 by Slovak Radio. The Slovak government proposed to change the budget deficit from the parameters adopted at the end of 2019 of 2.77 billion to 11.95 billion. The main argument for more than quadrupling the budget deficit was the negative consequences for the country's economy of the coronavirus pandemic. The initiative of the government, which believes that such a measure should be taken to financially support the national economy, was supported by the country's parliament, which in mid-July voted in favor of the necessary law. According to the latest data, the published Johns Hopkins University, in Slovakia all revealed 2354 cases of infection with new coronavirus infection of SARS-CoV-2. 29 patients with COVID-19 died in the country.
